This kitchen renovation in Tucker, GA, completed in November 2024, features a bright, open-plan layout. White upper cabinets and a white subway tile backsplash with a herringbone pattern contrast with the dark blue kitchen island, creating a balanced palette. The countertops are a light-colored stone with subtle veining. Hardwood floors extend throughout the space, connecting the kitchen to an adjacent living area.

The design prioritizes both aesthetics and functionality, with thoughtful storage solutions visible in various custom-fitted drawers and cabinets. These include a well-organized cutlery drawer, pull-out shelves for larger dishes, and vertical storage for baking sheets above the double ovens. A large farmhouse sink with an integrated cutting board and a sleek black faucet anchors the island, which also provides seating.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
