A light blue kitchen with a white countertop island, a range, and a sink under a window looking out at trees. A light blue built-in bar area features glass-front upper cabinets with liquor and stemware, a white countertop, and a beverage fridge below. A kitchen with light blue custom cabinetry, a built-in refrigerator, a wet bar with a beverage cooler, and a white countertop. A bathroom with a double vanity, a large mirror, and a walk-in shower with blue subway tiles. A two-story white house with black shutters, a covered front porch, and a tiered garden with colorful mums.

This kitchen, completed in January 2021 by Jennifer Peterson, features a light blue and white palette with brass accents. The space is arranged around a central island with seating, creating a functional area for cooking and gathering. A custom range hood and a large professional-style oven anchor one wall, complemented by a white subway tile backsplash laid in a herringbone pattern.

The design includes ample storage, a farmhouse sink, and a dedicated beverage station with a wine and drink cooler, as well as glass-front cabinets for displaying glassware. Thoughtful details like a discreet charging station within the island enhance the kitchen's practicality and modern appeal. The warm wood flooring provides a grounding contrast to the light cabinetry.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
