This South Haven, Michigan home, completed in March 2023, features a bright, open-plan living space. The kitchen, designed by Jennifer Peterson, includes white cabinetry, light countertops, and a subway tile backsplash. A large island and a range with a pot filler create a functional cooking area, while glass-front cabinets display dishware. The adjacent living area offers comfortable seating and views of the outdoors.

Throughout the home, light wood floors and white walls create a serene backdrop. Exposed wood beams add warmth and character to the main living area. A dedicated wet bar area with additional seating offers a relaxed space for entertaining, complementing the home's cohesive and inviting design.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
