This South Haven, Michigan home, completed in December 2022, features a cohesive design across multiple spaces. The kitchen showcases white cabinetry, dark countertops, and stainless steel appliances, with a light wood table and benches providing a central gathering point. Bathrooms incorporate a mix of blue and green tones, with patterned wallpaper, subway tiles, and herringbone tilework creating distinct looks. Jennifer was the lead designer with support of Jill on the design of this project.

Custom bunk beds with built-in storage and stairs create a functional and inviting sleeping area, while various vanity styles, from a double trough sink to single and double vanities with ample drawer storage, offer practical solutions throughout the home. Materials include marble-look flooring, light wood accents, and brass or black hardware, contributing to a refreshed and coordinated aesthetic.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
