This South Haven, Michigan home, completed in May 2022, features a bright, open-concept kitchen designed to be the heart of a family home. A large, curved island with a blue base and a light marble countertop offers seating and a central gathering point. White cabinetry, a farmhouse sink, and stainless steel appliances contribute to a fresh, contemporary aesthetic, complemented by natural light from multiple windows overlooking lush greenery. The adjacent wet bar provides additional storage and a beverage cooler.

The home also includes a tranquil primary bathroom with a double vanity in a soft blue, a spacious walk-in shower with subway tiles, and marble-patterned floor tiles. A powder room features a green vanity and a unique scalloped mirror. Throughout the home, a palette of cool blues, greens, and whites creates a serene and inviting atmosphere.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
