Kitchen Design in Winnetka
Our Kitchen Design service provides comprehensive plans for new kitchens and kitchen renovations. We design the layout, select materials, and document the details for your contractor to build.
What we do
We begin with a Design consultation to understand your project. We then present your design, including floor plans and elevations. Our Construction documents provide detailed drawings, and we guide Material selections for cabinetry, countertops, and fixtures. During Jobsite inspections, we visit the site to review progress. We conclude with Finishing touches, ensuring all design elements are in place.
Who it suits
This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta needing a new kitchen or a full kitchen renovation. It suits older homes in areas like Buckhead or Lake Forest, or new construction in Saugatuck.

Homes in Winnetka
Winnetka features a variety of homes, including 1920s and 1930s brick and stone Tudors in areas like the Indian Hill Estates, often with smaller, enclosed kitchens that we update with Kitchen Design. We also work on 1950s and 1960s ranches and split-levels in the Crow Island neighborhood, where we often address primary bathrooms with outdated layouts through Bathroom Design. Many homes built in the 1980s and 1990s near Skokie Lagoons have primary suites with separate, small shower and toilet rooms, which we combine into more spacious layouts. We also see many homes with unfinished basements that are ideal for Basement Remodel projects.
What homeowners in Winnetka ask for
Homeowners in Winnetka often request Kitchen Design for their 1920s and 1930s homes, seeking to open up galley kitchens. We frequently provide Bathroom Design for 1950s and 1960s ranches to update layouts and finishes. Many projects involve a Full-Home Design for properties built in the 1980s, updating multiple living spaces and primary suites. Basement Remodel projects are also common in homes of various eras.
Kitchen Design work from the studio
Led by Jennifer Peterson from the Chicago studio
About the studio
Two sisters, one studio
Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.
Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
