Kitchen Design in South Barrington

Our Kitchen Design service provides comprehensive plans for new kitchens and kitchen renovations. We design the layout, select materials, and document the details for your contractor to build.

What we do

We begin with a Design consultation to understand your project. We then present your design, including floor plans and elevations. Our Construction documents provide detailed drawings, and we guide Material selections for cabinetry, countertops, and fixtures. During Jobsite inspections, we visit the site to review progress. We conclude with Finishing touches, ensuring all design elements are in place.

Who it suits

This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta needing a new kitchen or a full kitchen renovation. It suits older homes in areas like Buckhead or Lake Forest, or new construction in Saugatuck.

In South Barrington

Homes in South Barrington

Many homes in South Barrington are 1980s and 1990s two-story colonials and custom builds in subdivisions like The Oaks and Woods of South Barrington. These often feature original oak trim and cabinetry, which homeowners frequently update through Color Consultation or Kitchen Design projects. Newer construction, particularly in developments such as The Preserve and Wynstone, may have open-concept layouts where Furnishing & Styling helps define distinct living zones. We also see 2000s and 2010s luxury estates in areas like Biltmore Estates, where Full-Home Design projects address spacious primary bathrooms and expansive living areas.

What homeowners in South Barrington ask for

Homeowners in South Barrington frequently seek Kitchen Design to update 1980s and 1990s kitchens, often with closed-off layouts or outdated finishes. Bathroom Design projects commonly address primary bathrooms from the same era, which may have separate small shower and tub areas. We also undertake Living Space projects to refresh larger, open-plan living areas in 2000s and 2010s homes, and Mudroom designs to improve entry organization.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
