Mudroom in Scottdale
We design mudrooms for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta. This service focuses on creating a dedicated, organized entry space for daily living. We plan the layout and select all materials for your mudroom.
What we do
Our process begins with a Design consultation to understand your home and how you use your entry space. We then present your design, including initial layouts and material concepts. Construction documents follow, providing detailed drawings for your contractor. Material selections cover all finishes, fixtures, and built-ins. We conduct Jobsite inspections to ensure the design is executed as planned, and we guide you through the Finishing touches.
Who it suits
This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta that need a dedicated entry and storage area. It suits older bungalows, new construction, and homes where an existing space can be reconfigured. We design mudrooms for families and individuals who need a highly organized entry.

In Scottdale
Homes in Scottdale
Scottdale features a mix of housing styles, including 1950s ranch homes in neighborhoods like Scottdale Park, often with original galley kitchens that homeowners want to open up to living spaces. Many homes in the Avondale Dunaire area are 1920s bungalows, where we often address smaller bathrooms or create more functional Mudroom spaces. Newer construction, such as the 2000s townhomes near the Scottdale-Decatur border, often benefit from Furnishing & Styling or Color Consultation to personalize their interiors. We also work on 1960s brick ranches in the areas around North Avondale Road, frequently updating Kitchen Design and Bathroom Design.
What homeowners in Scottdale ask for
Homeowners in Scottdale frequently seek Kitchen Design to update their 1950s ranch kitchens, often involving removing walls to create open-concept living. Bathroom Design is also common in 1920s bungalows, where original layouts are often small and dated. We also complete Full-Home Design projects for families moving into 1960s ranches, looking to update all living spaces. Basement Remodel projects are popular for adding functional living areas in homes with unfinished lower levels.

About the studio
Two sisters, one studio
Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.
Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
