Mudroom in Atlanta
We design mudrooms for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta. This service focuses on creating a dedicated, organized entry space for daily living. We plan the layout and select all materials for your mudroom.
What we do
Our process begins with a Design consultation to understand your home and how you use your entry space. We then present your design, including initial layouts and material concepts. Construction documents follow, providing detailed drawings for your contractor. Material selections cover all finishes, fixtures, and built-ins. We conduct Jobsite inspections to ensure the design is executed as planned, and we guide you through the Finishing touches.
Who it suits
This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta that need a dedicated entry and storage area. It suits older bungalows, new construction, and homes where an existing space can be reconfigured. We design mudrooms for families and individuals who need a highly organized entry.

In Atlanta
Homes in Atlanta
Atlanta's housing stock includes many 1920s and 1930s brick bungalows in neighborhoods like Virginia-Highland, often featuring small, enclosed kitchens that we reconfigure for Kitchen Design. In areas like Brookhaven, 1980s and 1990s two-story colonials frequently have primary bathrooms split into two small rooms, which we address with Bath Design. Many homes in Midtown also feature unpainted 1980s oak cabinetry that we update through Furnishing & Styling. We also work with 1950s ranch homes in Decatur, where low basement ceilings often require creative solutions for Full-Home Design.
What homeowners in Atlanta ask for
Homeowners in Atlanta frequently seek Kitchen Design for their 1920s bungalows, aiming to open up galley kitchens. Many also request Bath Design for their 1980s and 1990s colonials to combine small, separated primary bath spaces. Full-Home Design projects often involve updating 1950s ranch homes, addressing issues like low basement ceilings. We also assist with Furnishing & Styling to update interiors with unpainted 1980s oak.
Mudroom work from the studio

About the studio
Two sisters, one studio
Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.
Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
