Mudroom in Western Springs

We design mudrooms for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta. This service focuses on creating a dedicated, organized entry space for daily living. We plan the layout and select all materials for your mudroom.

What we do

Our process begins with a Design consultation to understand your home and how you use your entry space. We then present your design, including initial layouts and material concepts. Construction documents follow, providing detailed drawings for your contractor. Material selections cover all finishes, fixtures, and built-ins. We conduct Jobsite inspections to ensure the design is executed as planned, and we guide you through the Finishing touches.

Who it suits

This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta that need a dedicated entry and storage area. It suits older bungalows, new construction, and homes where an existing space can be reconfigured. We design mudrooms for families and individuals who need a highly organized entry.

In Western Springs

Homes in Western Springs

In Western Springs, we often work with 1920s brick bungalows in neighborhoods like Forest Hills, where original galley kitchens are often closed off from dining rooms. We also see many 1950s and 1960s ranches in Springdale, where primary bathrooms are frequently split into two small, separate rooms. Our Kitchen Design service often reconfigures these older layouts to create more open spaces. We also provide Bathroom Design to update these smaller, divided primary baths. Homes near the Stonegate subdivision, built in the 1980s and 1990s, often feature unpainted oak trim and cabinetry that we address through our Furnishing & Styling and Color Consultation services.

What homeowners in Western Springs ask for

Homeowners in Western Springs often engage us for Kitchen Design to update 1920s and 1930s kitchens, which typically have small footprints and limited counter space. We also frequently provide Bathroom Design for 1950s and 1960s homes, where primary bathrooms often need to be reconfigured for better flow. Full-Home Design projects are common for homes built in the 1970s and 1980s that seek a more cohesive aesthetic throughout the entire house, including Living Space updates and Furnishing & Styling.

About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.

Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
