Mudroom in Hinsdale
We design mudrooms for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta. This service focuses on creating a dedicated, organized entry space for daily living. We plan the layout and select all materials for your mudroom.
What we do
Our process begins with a Design consultation to understand your home and how you use your entry space. We then present your design, including initial layouts and material concepts. Construction documents follow, providing detailed drawings for your contractor. Material selections cover all finishes, fixtures, and built-ins. We conduct Jobsite inspections to ensure the design is executed as planned, and we guide you through the Finishing touches.
Who it suits
This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta that need a dedicated entry and storage area. It suits older bungalows, new construction, and homes where an existing space can be reconfigured. We design mudrooms for families and individuals who need a highly organized entry.

In Hinsdale
Homes in Hinsdale
Hinsdale homes include 1920s and 1930s brick Tudors and Colonials in areas like The Highlands, often with original kitchens that feel closed off from living spaces, prompting Kitchen Design projects. Many 1950s and 1960s ranches in subdivisions such as Madison School have smaller bathrooms that homeowners look to combine or reconfigure, making Bathroom Design a common request. Newer construction from the 1980s and 1990s in areas like Woodlands often features primary bathrooms with separate, small shower and toilet rooms, which we address through Full-Home Design. We also see homes with unpainted oak trim from the 1980s that homeowners want to update with Color Consultation.
What homeowners in Hinsdale ask for
Homeowners in Hinsdale frequently engage us for Kitchen Design to update 1920s and 1930s kitchens that lack modern functionality and flow. Bathroom Design is also popular for 1950s and 1960s homes where primary bathrooms often require reconfiguration. We often work on Living Space projects in 1980s and 1990s homes, updating finishes and furnishings to create a more current feel. Basement Remodel projects are common in many Hinsdale homes to add usable living areas.
Mudroom work from the studio

About the studio
Two sisters, one studio
Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.
Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
