Kitchen & Bathroom Design in Douglas
Our Kitchen & Bathroom Design service focuses on the most used spaces in your home. We design new kitchens and bathrooms or redesign existing ones, creating detailed plans for your contractor to build.
What we do
Our process begins with a design consultation to understand your project. We then present your design, including drawings and specifications for your new kitchen or bathroom. Construction documents provide detailed plans for your contractor, and material selections specify all finishes and fixtures. We conduct jobsite inspections during construction and add finishing touches at the project's completion.
Who it suits
This service is for homes in Chicago, Southwest Michigan, and Atlanta. It suits projects like a kitchen remodel in a Chicago bungalow or a new primary bathroom in an Atlanta craftsman home. We also design new kitchens and bathrooms for homes in Southwest Michigan.

In Douglas
Homes in Douglas
Douglas homes include 1950s ranch homes in areas like the Shorewood neighborhood, often with smaller, enclosed kitchens that benefit from Kitchen Design. Many residences near Lake Michigan, built in the 1980s and 1990s, feature primary bathrooms with outdated finishes and layouts, making Bathroom Design a popular service. We also see 1920s cottages in the downtown area, where Color Consultation helps update interiors while respecting their historic character. Homes along Blue Star Highway often have mudrooms that can be optimized for better storage and flow.
What homeowners in Douglas ask for
Homeowners in Douglas often seek Kitchen Design for their 1950s ranch homes, aiming to open up galley kitchens. Bathroom Design is also frequently requested for 1980s and 1990s homes near the lake, addressing dated fixtures and layouts. Many clients also engage us for Living Space design to update interiors in their historic cottages. Basement Remodel projects are common in homes with lower-level spaces that need functional improvements.

About the studio
Two sisters, one studio
Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads our work in Chicago and Southwest Michigan. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta studio. Together, we design homes that feel considered and beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and personal to the people who live in them.
Although we work in different cities, we operate as one studio. We talk through plans, share ideas, question each other, and bring another experienced set of eyes to the decisions that matter. Being sisters makes that collaboration especially natural — there is a shorthand, an honesty, and a shared standard that has been there long before the studio.
